ACE Refrigeration is the leading refrigeration engineering specialist for the Health, Life Sciences and Pharmaceuticals industries throughout the UK.

Our project teams have carried out major indemnified design and installation developments for Laboratories, Clean Rooms, Freezer Rooms, Cold Rooms, Temperature Controlled Rooms, Temperature Mapping, Temperature Controlled Cabinets, Blood Fridges, Ultra Low Temperature Freezers, Raw Materials Rooms and Freeze Dryers.

ACE Refrigeration is one of the few specialists in the UK with the expert knowledge, experience and capabilities required to successfully design and install applications with temperatures ranging from -40°C to 37°C, plus -80°C ultra-low temperature freezers.

All of our projects incorporate energy efficiency measures with multiple rooms connected to central scroll pack systems to reduce energy consumption.

These packs are also supplied with back up compressors to provide stand-by in the event of failure, helping to ensure peace of mind for clients that delicate products are maintained at the exact temperatures required, with product integrity retained at all times.

All of our applications are supplied, installed, calibrated and commissioned according to NHS Blood Storage National Standards, CFR21 Compliance and in accordance with procedures laid out in BS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005.

Our clients range from SAFC – the custom manufacturing and services business unit of Sigma-Aldrich Corporation, the West of Scotland National Blood Transfusion Centre, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Scottish Environment Protection Agency, Aptuit and Piramal alongside some of the best universities and research centres in the country.

At the beginning of 2015 it was confirmed that ACE Refrigeration had been appointed by main contractor Interserve Kajima for the refrigeration element of the new, state of the art, Scottish National Blood Transfusion Centre, due to open in spring 2017 at the Heriot Watt Research Park in Edinburgh. The new facility will be a hub for processing, testing, supply, research and development for blood and human donor tissues and cells, and will consolidate and modernise services which are currently carried out over a number of sites. We assisted the main contractor Interserve Kajima with their winning bid and expect to be on site this September.

We have a long-standing association with the Blood Transfusion Service in Scotland. Back in 2002, we were responsible for the air conditioning and refrigeration installations at the West of Scotland Blood Transfusion Centre at Gartnavel Hospital in Glasgow. In that time we have continually serviced and maintained the refrigeration plant, the result being only one compressor failure out of the 33 separate systems installed, proving the cost-effectiveness of regular maintenance.

Just recently, we have been awarded a contract to work with Bouygues Energies for GSK at their new state-of-the-art biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility at Ulverston on a cold store warehouse. ACE Refrigeration will be responsible for the design and build of the new cold store to be constructed on a ¾ acre plot, which will be used to store 1400 pallets of products within temperature range of +2C to +8C.

In 2012 we installed 14 Laboratory Cold Rooms at the New South Glasgow University Hospital to the south of the River Clyde in Glasgow  - 1 x -40°C room, 10 x +4°C Rooms,  3 x -20°C rooms and 2 x +37°C, were supplied, installed, calibrated and commissioned according to NHS Blood storage standards.

During the summer of 2013, we completed two phases of a project for SAFC, the custom manufacturing and services business unit of Sigma-Aldrich Corporation, to build a suite of seven cold rooms as part of an expansion to their Centre of Excellence biologics manufacturing campus in Irvine, Ayrshire. Phase one consisted of a freezer room, a raw materials room and a large temperature controlled warm room.

Last year ACE Refrigeration was awarded the National Framework Contract for all clinical and non-clinical refrigeration Service and Maintenance by NHS Scotland; running from the beginning of 2014 – 2017.

And in Spring 2015, ACE Refrigeration was awarded a three year contract by NHS Ayrshire and Arran, covering the maintenance of all refrigeration equipment, again both clinical and non-clinical, at 34 separate locations.

Aptuit is a global business focusing on drug discovery, development and manufacturing support both in Europe and the US. Aptuit’s 18,377 sq. ft state of the art facility on the Todd Campus just outside Glasgow city centre delivers important drug development services. We have been responsible for high level service and maintenance of all their air conditioning and refrigeration needs for many years, including a range of highly critical pharmaceutical processing equipment together with two freeze driers and two water chillers.

Our experience within this sector has also grown through working in partnership with following customers – NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, Vale of Leven Hospital, The Victoria Infirmary, The Nuffield Hospital and the Western Infirmary as well as Piramal and the University of Glasgow.
