The Customer

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) is Scotland’s environmental regulator; helping business and industry to understand their environmental responsibilities, enabling customers to comply with legislation and good practice and to realise the many economic benefits of good environmental practice. SEPA also protect communities by regulating activities that can cause harmful pollution and by monitoring the quality of Scotland’s air, land and water. In addition, SEPA take responsibility for delivering Scotland’s flood warning system, helping to implement Scotland’s National Waste Strategy and controlling, with the Health and Safety Executive, the risk of major accidents at industrial sites. More than 1,300 employees cover a range of specialist areas including chemistry, ecology, environmental regulation, hydrology, engineering, quality control, planning, communications, business support and management functions.

The Project

ACE Refrigeration completed the design, supply and installation of four cold rooms for the Scottish Environment Protection Agency as well as taking responsibility for their service and maintenance. The project consisted of one Low Temperature room and three High Temperature rooms; all now fully functional in the Angus Smith Building at Eurocentral in Lanarkshire. The building which opened in the summer of 2013 has first-class laboratory work space and allows SEPA to bring together more than 300 staff from related disciplines into a single, modern, fit-for-purpose facility, enhancing the agency’s integrated and coordinated approach to environmental protection and improvement.

Manufacturer Independence

ACE Refrigeration is manufacturer independent and able to offer customers solutions which best meet their needs; and with energy costs on the rise, this is the ideal time to take action. As well as complying with the legal requirements of ever-changing legislation, replacing tired and  inefficient equipment can have a major benefit on your bottom line – some of our recent installations have had a payback period of less than 2 years based on the energy savings received; some customers have  saved up to 25% off their energy bills.

Industry Experience

Established in Glasgow in 1951, our knowledge, breadth of experience and professional indemnity set us apart from others and enable us to have a very flexible approach to projects and working partnerships.

We are recognised as the leading supplier of refrigeration systems for the health, pharmaceutical, catering and food processing industries throughout the UK – we know that reliability, efficiency and product integrity are the key words in the pharmaceutical industry. In 2013, ACE Refrigeration completed a large project with SAFC, the custom manufacturing and services business unit of Sigma-Aldrich Corporation, building a suite of seven cold rooms as part of an expansion to their Centre of Excellence biologics manufacturing campus in Irvine, Ayrshire. ACE built a freezer room, a raw materials room and a large temperature controlled warm room as part of SAFC’s Phase I expansion. Phase II of the expansion followed with ACE Refrigeration installing a chill room, a freezer room and another large chill room, with temperatures ranging from -22°C to 25°C.

One of only a few UK companies with the specialist knowledge, experience and ability to design and install these rooms, ACE Refrigeration was also recently responsible for a state-of-the-art, blood plasma room at the new South Glasgow Hospital for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, capable of maintaining lows of minus 40°.

And the ACE team previously worked on a similar facility for the West of Scotland Blood Transfusion Centre at Gartnavel Hospital, and have now successfully maintained the blood bank equipment for more than 10 years.
